The psychedelic hype
Is the psychedelic renaissance everything that people claim it to be? Is the media blowing the therapeutic value of psychedelics out of proportion?

You may have heard of all the research that is being carried out across the globe on the therapeutic benefits that psychedelics can have on various mental health issues – from treatment resistant major depression to addictions to debilitating PTSD. There are Netflix series and documentaries coming out, books are being written, podcasts that look at the topic are being produced. With media coverage that sometimes blows the therapeutic value of psychedelics out of proportion (those headlines sell better), it can be easy to come away believing that they are a magic, instant cure for whatever it is that you are struggling with.
Here is an interesting talk, You Can Be Both Pro-Psychedelic and Anti-Hype by Nese Devenot, where she questions the hype and encourages a more cautious approach to the psychedelic renaissance (and she herself has felt how deeply valuable psychedelics have been for her and her mental health issues). It is a good reminder to stay realistic, while also believing firmly in the therapeutic value that these substances can and have had for many, many people.
